A New Newark by Christopher Hartwyk

Throw yourself in the Mix by Christopher Hartwyk

Happen to be in Newark? Hungry? Try out 27 Mix, a fun, lively place. This restaurant is visually astonishing with exposed brick and hardwood floors in a narrow, newly renovated building. The place has so much potential. On a nice spring day there is an outdoor patio that spills into the main dining area. The walls are saturated with eclectic paintings by local artist. Along with the beautiful sights, comes delectable taste.

The menu might best be described as adventurous bistro. For lunch, try the healthy wraps and salads. For dinner, sample the appetizer of grilled shrimp wrapped in prosciutto and served with a basil mayo; the rare tuna and the grilled hanger steak entrĂ©es are good too. For dessert, don’t miss the super delicious zabaglione with berries.

If you are without plans on a Friday night, or just got out of a show head over to 27 Halsey St., around the corner from the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, it’s the only one in the neighborhood open for dinner after the show, you won’t regret it!
